Abstract
En este artículo se analiza la política exterior de México hacia el Caribe Anglófono como un instrumento para su Seguridad Nacional, a partir de su reconocida estratégica ubicación geográfica y los diversos retos compartidos. El tema de la seguridad se aborda desde un enfoque ampliado y multidimensional, el cual considera las amenazas tradicionales y las nuevas amenazas. En ese sentido, se realiza un breve examen de los objetivos y características de las relaciones de los gobiernos mexicanos con el Caribe anglófono, en términos de su Seguridad Nacional de 1962 a 2018, así como la cooperación que en materia de seguridad ha desplegado el gobierno mexicano a nivel bilateral y regional. Finalmente, se presentan una serie de conclusiones y recomendaciones, que podrían fortalecer la cooperación o formar parte de una estrategia integral hacia dicha región.
This article analyses, the mexican foreign policy towards the english speaking caribbean countries as an instrument for its national security, taking into account its recognized strategic geographic location and the mutually shared challenges. the issue of security is approached from an extended and multidimensional scope, which considers traditional and new threats. in that sense, a brief review of the objectives and characteristics of the relations between the mexican governments and the english speaking caribbean countries from 1962 to 2018 is undertaken, in terms of their national security, as well as the cooperation granted by mexico in this matter at the bilateral and regional level. finally, a series of conclusions and recommendations, which could strengthen cooperation or form part of a comprehensive strategy towards that region are presented.
