¿Quien domine el Ártico, dominará el mundo? El papel del poder marítimo

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como propósito identificar conceptos y datos científicos sobre el calentamiento global, el cambio climático y el deshielo polar, para analizar las circunstancias que influyen en la reconfiguración geopolítica mundial derivada de estos fenómenos. En ese orden de ideas, este trabajo se basa en la tesis de Maestría del autor (Barcelata, 2020) «Perspectiva geopolítica de las implicaciones del cambio climático en el poder marítimo de México», en la cual, a partir del modelo geopolítico del «Corazón Terrestre» (Heartland) del geográfo británico Halford John Mackinder, se analizó la expansión del pivote geográfico mundial hacia el Océano Ártico y la manera en la que México se vería afectado por la alteración en el diseño geopolítico del sistema internacional, así como el papel del poder marítimo mexicano en la geopolítica del deshielo polar y los desafíos para la seguridad nacional que esto conlleva.

The purpose of this article is to identify concepts and scientific data on global warming, climate change and polar melting, to analyze the circumstances that influence the global geopolitical reconfiguration derived from these phenomena. In that order of ideas, this work is based on the author's Master's thesis (Barcelata, 2020) "Geopolitical perspective of the implications of climate change in the maritime power of Mexico", in which, based on the geopolitical model of the " Terrestrial Heart» (Heartland) of the British geographer Halford John Mackinder, the expansion of the world geographic pivot towards the Arctic Ocean and the way in which Mexico would be affected by the alteration in the geopolitical design of the international system, as well as the role of Mexican maritime power in the geopolitics of polar ice melting and the challenges for national security that this entails.
